Object Center of Excellence (OCOE)

Learning Object Technology is a diverse and contentious area, which is constantly evolving, and will inevitably play a major role in shaping the future of both teaching and learning.

The views and methodologies to impart learning in this area are brought together from many sources, with the aim of providing an informative and stimulating area, inviting discussion and participation from practitioners and developers in the field.

Good software developers are perhaps the category of people within the IT-business who are in greatest demand. Education in software development is therefore an important activity to top this process.

Keeping this as prima facie, SEED Infotech, established its Center for Object Technology.

It focuses chiefly on the area of technology transfer catalysts for the rapid development and deployment of object-oriented infrastructure. It provides guidance to those challenged with managing the shift to object technology. Object Technology Overview :

Object technology differs from traditional system design which separates the data from the processing. Although data and processing are naturally related since software causes the computer to process data, the traditional approach has been to design the databases separate and apart from the processing routines, often using different modeling and documentation tools.

Initiatives :

	Architecture of object-oriented systems :
	The goal here is to improve the means for reuse of design and code. This is done by working with architectural elements such as (application-) frameworks, design rules and design patterns, component-based architectures (li ke COM and ActiveX), distributed objects (like CORBA), open implementations, documentation, etc.

	Tool support for (cooperative) OO development :
	Most existing tools of OO software development are single user oriented. One goal for COT is to investigate tools for cooperative software development and for supporting the initial phases of analysis and design. Technologies to be investigated are conference systems and electronic whiteboards in the form of large touch sensitive computer screens.

	Introduction of OO into companies :
	In practice there are a number of problems with introducing OO into a company, since OO development in many ways differs from traditional function-oriented development. This requires changes for the company as well as the developers. In COT a number of strategies for introduction of OO will be developed and tested. This strategy involves a combination of education, mentoring and pilot projects.

	Object-Oriented Analysis and Design :
	For experienced programmers with C++ /Java familiarity, who may not have formalexposure to analysis and design using the object technology.
